About

Øyvind Nordhagen

Øyvind grew up in a darkroom before he proceeded to build his own in his teens. In 2001 he founded Okular Design Studio, where he went on to shoot commercial and corporate as side gigs related to commissioned design projects.

For 20 years Øyvind made a made a career as a technology worker and leader, after having been responsible for most of the interactive work coming out of Okular. Photography was still a passion that came handy in many of the projects he worked on during that time. In 2020 he decided to focus on documentary and street photography as an art form for investigating interests and as commentary.

In 2021 Øyvind co-founded Oslo Street Photography Collective which has since become the most internationally diverse photographic community in the Nordics, participating in exhibitions, giving talks and organizing the Oslo Street Photo Festival.

Some questions I get from time to time

Do you sell prints?

Yes, I do on demand. Contact me and let me know what you're looking for and we will sort it out!

What kind of assignments or commissions do you accept?

I'm always open to discussing cool concepts and assignments that align with my interests and expertise.

We are a wealthy family travelling to Oslo and we would like some professional travel portraits made. Can you help?

No, I would rather not, sorry. Surprising how often someone asks for that.

Would you like to come to our event and speak about your work?

Yes, absolutely! I am very passionate about photography and have accumulated quite a lot of knowledge (or at least opinions) over the years. I am also very comfortable with public speaking and I love answering questions.

Who are your influences?

Hmmm let's see... Off the top of my head I would say Joel Sternfeld, Lars Tunbjörk and Adam Stockhausen. And I must also give a nod to the best Norwegian Tunbjörkers, Helge Skodvin and Erlend Berge.

Do you stage, pose or generate any or any part of your images?

No. The essence of my attraction to photography lies in the fact that what the picture shows is real and something I found. If any part of it is artificial, I loose interest. The only exception would be portrait photography, where I might direct the subject to some degree.

Do you shoot video or do drone work?

Not at the moment. I would if I were a full-time photographer, but I'm not.

What kind of equipment do you use?

The Fujifilm GFX 100S II medium format is my primary body and I use the Fujifilm X-E5 as a daily carry. Images on this site are a combination of both. I don't use flash much, but when I do I use Godox speedlights mostly. If you want to se a list of every camera I've owned, look no further.
